Democrats Immediately Call For More Gun Control

Braden Langley, host of Langley Outdoors Academy on YouTube, opened his latest video by saying it took “five seconds” after a shooting in New York for gun control advocates to start calling for more restrictions. According to Langley, the reaction was immediate and predictable: “They didn’t even have all the facts yet,” he said, “and already the message was: take away gun rights.”

Langley reported that the incident involved a man in New York City carrying an AR-15-style rifle who opened fire inside an office building, killing a police officer and injuring others. The host stressed that this happened in a state that has some of the strictest gun laws in the country. He then argued that these laws did nothing to prevent the tragedy: “It’s one of the gun control meccas, and yet the criminal just walked right through the middle of Manhattan, in a gun-free zone, with a banned rifle and a banned magazine,” he said.

To emphasize his point, Langley cited data from Everytown for Gun Safety, a group that grades states based on their level of gun control. He showed that New York scores 85 out of 100 on their “gun law strength” scale and ranks number four nationwide. “They already have everything on the wish list,” Langley said. “Background checks, red flag laws, bans on so-called assault weapons, magazine limits, safe storage laws, microstamping. They even regulate ghost guns. And yet, none of that mattered last night.”

Advocacy Groups Respond

Langley shared a post on X from Giffords, a leading gun control group, which read: “Gun violence is threatening Americans every single day regardless of where they are in the country. This should not be normal… We need leaders to act now.” He argued that this statement deliberately ignored the fact that the shooting occurred in a city already saturated with strict laws. “They broaden it out so they don’t have to admit that this happened in one of their own supposed success stories,” Langley said.

Langley then pointed to a comment from Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action, who wrote: “Civilians should not have access to semi-automatic rifles.” The host highlighted how this wording has shifted over time. “First it was assault weapons, then ‘weapons of war,’ and now it’s literally any semi-auto rifle,” he said. “That includes small .22 caliber rifles like a Ruger 10/22. They always move the line further.”

Langley also played a clip from CNN, where a panel of analysts described the firearm as a “high-velocity killing machine” that could shoot “through walls into the next room.” Langley disputed the accuracy of these descriptions: “That’s just fearmongering,” he said. “If you know anything about a .223 or 5.56 round, you know it’s designed to tumble and lose energy – not to keep going forever like a rocket.” He mocked the exaggerated tone, adding, “They make it sound like this thing could cause a nuclear chain reaction.”

Democratic Politicians Join the Chorus

After the event, numerous Democratic politicians posted statements on social media. Langley read one from Representative Dan Goldman: “This isn’t about New York. This is about Republicans persistently blocking common-sense gun safety reform, including an assault weapons ban that a supermajority of Americans support.” Langley pushed back, calling it a distraction: “Of course it’s about New York. You can’t ignore where it happened just because it proves that all your laws failed,” he said.

Langley also showed posts from House Democrats Jerry Nadler and Hakeem Jeffries. Nadler wrote: “Gun violence in this country is an epidemic. We must put an end to the easy access of weapons of war that continue to take innocent lives.” Jeffries said: “Mass shootings are a plague. The gun violence epidemic continues to afflict our country and has now shattered lives in our great city. The time has come for decisive action.”

Langley noted that these politicians did not acknowledge that New York already has nearly every restriction they are now demanding nationally.

Throughout the video, Langley returned to a single theme: laws that target law-abiding gun owners do not stop criminals. “If you pile on more laws, the same thing happens,” he argued. “The bad guys ignore them and the good guys are left defenseless. The officer who was killed in this case didn’t stand a chance because he was outgunned in a gun-free zone. That’s the reality.”

A Broader Pattern

According to Langley, this cycle has become predictable. After each high-profile shooting, he said, the same calls come from the same sources. “It’s like a script,” he explained. “Step one, ignore the fact that all the laws failed. Step two, say that we need even more laws. Step three, try to take away the rights of 340 million people based on what one evil person did.”

A Debate That Never Changes

The debate over gun control is as polarized as ever. Langley’s video illustrates the frustration many gun owners feel when they see lawmakers propose more restrictions instead of addressing failures in enforcement or mental health. Whether one agrees with his conclusions or not, his criticism raises an important question: at what point do we acknowledge that laws alone cannot stop those intent on violence?

Langley closed the video by saying the only way to deter such attacks is to empower law-abiding citizens to defend themselves: “If criminals knew that anyone they attacked could fight back, this would change. Disarming everyone just creates easy targets.” He urged viewers to stay informed and active, saying that the push for national bans will continue.
