A downtown Naperville traffic stop that began with a report about a projectile being fired from a passing car quickly turned into a tense roadside scene involving open alcohol, fireworks, marijuana products, a stun gun, and multiple arrests, according to a new video from PoliceCamCentral.
The bodycam footage shows officers stopping a vehicle on July 17, 2025, after a woman reported being struck near a Starbucks by what she believed was a pellet or BB gun.
PoliceCamCentral’s host said Naperville bike officers were patrolling downtown when they were approached by the victim, who described the car and its occupants. Less than 20 minutes later, officers spotted a vehicle matching that description inside a nearby parking garage.
What followed was not a quiet investigation.
A Report Near Starbucks Leads Officers To The Car
According to the host, the victim told officers she had been shot at by someone in a passing vehicle, with the suspected shooter described as a front-seat passenger wearing red.
When officers reached the car, one of them explained why they were there, telling the occupants they had received a report about a black sedan with a front passenger in a red sweatshirt shooting people with BBs.
One person in the vehicle denied shooting a BB gun, and an officer asked whether they would mind if police checked for one. The officer said he was not searching the car at that moment, but he also asked whether there was any reason to believe a BB gun was inside.
The stop escalated after officers noticed what they believed was a projectile gun in plain view.
One officer ordered the occupants to step out, telling them they were being detained.
The driver, identified later in the PoliceCamCentral narration as Terra, immediately pushed back, insisting there was no reason for the detention and arguing that the item was an Orbeez gun, not a BB gun.
“It’s an Orbeez gun,” she shouted in the footage.
An officer responded that it was the same difference for the purpose of the investigation, while the driver continued to curse at police and accuse them of being wrong.
The Driver Says Her Father Is A Cop
The woman’s attitude became one of the main parts of the encounter, according to PoliceCamCentral’s host, who warned early in the video that it would “only get significantly worse” as the stop went on.
At one point, she told officers her father was a police officer and said she knew her rights.
“My dad is a cop,” she shouted in the footage. “I know my rights.”
The woman also said she had a medical condition and was allowed to sit down, even as officers told her not to go back into the vehicle.
An officer responded that she still had to listen to police when they gave her an order.
That moment captures one of the stranger parts of the stop. She was trying to use familiarity with police as a shield against police, but the footage shows that the officers were not backing away from their commands because of who she claimed her father was.
There is also something revealing about how fast the stop changed. What began as a question about a projectile gun became a test of whether the driver and passengers would follow basic instructions while officers tried to figure out what else was in the car.
Officers Say The Victim Had A Welt
Although the object was later described as an Orbeez gun, PoliceCamCentral’s host said the victim reported being struck in the head and that the responding officer documented a welt on her upper right forehead that was consistent with being hit by a projectile.
That detail mattered because the people in the car repeatedly tried to treat the item as harmless.
The driver argued with officers, cursed at them, and claimed they had everything wrong. When officers asked who had fired the Orbeez gun, no one in the vehicle gave a clear answer.
PoliceCamCentral’s host said the victim identified the woman’s 21-year-old fiancé, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, as the person who fired the Orbeez gun.
Officers continued trying to separate the occupants and collect identification, while the driver accused them of conducting an illegal search and threatened to sue.
“You’re touching him without reasonable cause,” she yelled as officers dealt with one passenger.
The footage shows how quickly a stop can become harder when several people talk over each other and refuse to answer simple questions. Even if someone believes officers are wrong, shouting, moving around, and reaching toward the car tends to make the situation worse, not better.
Fireworks, Alcohol, And Marijuana Products Found
The Orbeez gun was not the only issue officers found inside the car, according to PoliceCamCentral.
As the stop continued, officers discovered fireworks in the vehicle. The host noted that while some limited novelty items are legal in Illinois, many consumer fireworks remain prohibited, which is why officers took interest in what they were finding.
Police also found marijuana products, according to the report described in the video.
In the bodycam footage, one officer said there was also open alcohol and mentioned possible tobacco or vape-related violations involving one of the younger occupants.
“There’s fireworks in the car,” an officer told one of the people at the scene, explaining that it gave police reason to continue searching.
The driver appeared to brush off the possible consequences, saying she could take a ticket and fight it later.
At one point, after the woman continued mouthing off about the stop, an officer made a remark that cut through the whole scene.
“I should have taught you better,” the officer said.
The line stood out because it came right after the driver repeatedly invoked her father’s law enforcement background. The footage did not clarify the officer’s personal connection, if any, to her family, but the comment landed as a sharp response to her claim that being a cop’s daughter gave her some special understanding of the situation.
Refusing Orders Turns Into An Arrest
The confrontation reached a turning point when officers told the woman to stay put, but she said she was going to stand by her fiancé.
An officer warned her, then decided she had pushed too far.
“You’re going to jail,” the officer said.
The woman screamed and resisted as officers moved to handcuff her.
She continued shouting that she had mental health and medical conditions and claimed officers were violating her rights by taking her away from her fiancé, whom she described as her caregiver.
One officer told her the issue was simple: she did not know how to follow directions.
“I’m tired of you thinking that you own this scene right here,” the officer said.
That sentence may be the clearest summary of the stop. The driver seemed to treat the parking garage as if she could argue her way into controlling it, but officers were investigating a reported battery involving a projectile, along with the items they were finding in the car.
By that point, the stop had moved far beyond a simple conversation.
The Fiancé Is Identified As The Shooter
PoliceCamCentral’s host said Terra was arrested and charged with attempting to obstruct justice and resisting an officer, along with additional charges tied to illegal items found inside the vehicle.
Her fiancé was also taken into custody after the victim positively identified him as the person who fired the Orbeez gun from the car, according to the host.
The man later admitted during questioning that he was the one who shot the Orbeez gun and acknowledged he knew the victim had been struck in the head, PoliceCamCentral reported.
He was then charged with battery and reckless conduct.
The case is interesting because the item at the center of the original call was not a traditional firearm, and yet the consequences still became serious. A projectile toy may sound minor until someone is struck in the head from a passing vehicle, officers respond, and the stop uncovers a pile of other problems.
A Stop That Kept Getting Worse
The video ends with officers sorting through possible tickets, charges, and items found inside the vehicle, while the woman remains under arrest after refusing commands.
PoliceCamCentral’s footage shows a stop that could have been handled much more calmly, especially once officers explained why they were there.
Instead, the driver repeatedly cursed at police, claimed special knowledge because her father was an officer, threatened lawsuits, and resisted when officers finally decided she was not going to follow directions.
The larger lesson from the footage is not complicated. A traffic stop is not a courtroom, and shouting about rights does not pause an investigation in real time.
