A domestic-disturbance call spiraled into a chaotic confrontation after police found an intoxicated man outside a home near a large knife, went looking for his girlfriend to make sure she was safe, and were then met by an angry woman who repeatedly invoked her father’s law-enforcement status while dogs rushed the officers.
Police Sergeant Steve Gould, host of the bodycam commentary channel Sergeant Steve, reviewed footage from the June 5, 2026 incident and described the woman as the daughter of a law-enforcement officer. During the confrontation, she repeatedly told police that her father was a sheriff and a K9 officer, apparently believing that connection should change how they handled her.
Instead, the encounter deteriorated further as officers struggled with the woman, dealt with aggressive dogs, fired a shot toward one of them and eventually placed her under arrest. Gould later reported that she was charged with aggravated battery, threatening a public official and two counts of resisting a peace officer, while her boyfriend faced separate charges. Both cases remained pending at the time of his video, with no convictions.
Officers Find A Man Near A Large Knife
The incident began with deputies responding to what Gould described as a domestic disturbance.
Bodycam footage showed officers ordering a man out of a house with his hands visible. He appeared heavily intoxicated, according to Gould, and initially told officers to simply take him into custody without clearly explaining what had happened.
Police then noticed a large knife nearby.
When the man moved toward it, officers immediately ordered him onto the ground and warned that he would be Tased if he did not comply.
The man told officers one of his hands was broken, and they attempted to accommodate the injury while handcuffing him. Police also noticed blood around the doorway, which the man said came from his injured hand.
At that point, the officers still had a larger concern: they could not locate his girlfriend, McKenna.
Gould explained that police did not need to simply walk away because the man objected to them entering the home. Given the domestic call, the unexplained blood, his intoxication and uncertainty about McKenna’s condition, Gould said officers could enter to check whether another person needed immediate help.
They searched the house but did not find her.
Police Learn McKenna Is Next Door
The boyfriend initially became vague when officers asked where McKenna was, saying he knew exactly where she was but that police could not “get her.”
Gould called the way he spoke “creepy and cryptic,” particularly because officers were trying only to confirm that she was safe.
Eventually, the man said McKenna was next door.
When officers approached that location, the situation changed almost immediately.
McKenna came toward them visibly angry, shouting that they needed to get off the property and objecting to their involvement with her boyfriend. Gould described her as appearing intoxicated or possibly under the influence of something else, although that was his interpretation of the footage rather than a confirmed test result.
She repeatedly insisted that nobody had called police for her, even though officers explained that they were responding to the domestic disturbance and needed to determine what had happened.
Then the dogs became involved.
Several dogs began barking and rushing around as officers attempted to control McKenna, creating a dangerous situation for everyone in the yard.
Gould Says The Dogs Created A Serious Risk
Gould, drawing on nearly two decades of police experience, said scenes like this can end badly for dogs even when the animals themselves are not inherently aggressive.
From a dog’s perspective, he explained, strangers are suddenly grabbing and restraining the person they view as their caretaker. The animal does not understand the arrest or the legal circumstances and may simply interpret the physical struggle as an attack.
“This is how dogs get shot,” Gould said.
One officer ultimately fired his handgun toward a tan dog as the animals moved around the confrontation.
Gould initially was unsure whether the animal had been struck, and the officer himself later said he did not believe he had hit it. Police located the dog afterward and examined it, with the footage appearing to show that it was uninjured.
The officers also used a Taser’s drive-stun function in an effort to scare the dogs away without shooting them, which Gould considered a reasonable attempt to create distance.
The scene demonstrates how a confrontation can become exponentially more dangerous once uncontrolled animals enter it. Even without anyone intending to hurt a dog, officers suddenly have to make decisions in seconds while also controlling a resisting person.
“My Dad’s A Sheriff”
As officers restrained McKenna, she repeatedly brought up her father.
“My dad’s a sheriff,” she shouted, at another point describing him as a K9 sheriff or K9 operator.
Gould mocked the idea that her father’s position should somehow require officers to release her, noting that being related to someone in law enforcement does not provide immunity from arrest.
At another point, when an officer mentioned being a K9 operator himself, McKenna continued arguing rather than calming down.
She also threatened lawsuits, demanded officers’ names and badge numbers, and made increasingly hostile remarks as she was taken toward a patrol vehicle.
According to Gould, she even made a threat about punching an officer in the face, prompting one of the officers to tell her that she was continuing to add problems for herself.
That was the central pattern Gould highlighted throughout the encounter: nearly every opportunity to lower the temperature instead led to another argument, threat or act of resistance.
Her father’s occupation, whatever authority he may have held elsewhere, had no bearing on what officers were seeing in front of them.
Police Also Had To Secure The Dogs
After McKenna was placed in a patrol car, officers still had to deal with the dogs left at the scene.
Rather than abandoning them or assuming the animal that had been fired upon was fine, officers worked to locate and secure the dogs, including the tan one.
One officer said he did not see blood and believed the shot had merely frightened the animal.
Gould gave the officers credit for making the effort to secure the dogs once the physical confrontation had ended.
He also noted that officers who appeared to have been bitten would face the additional complication of determining whether the dogs had current rabies vaccinations and other veterinary records.
What began as a welfare check had by then created multiple separate problems: an intoxicated man, a knife, questions surrounding a domestic incident, a resisting woman, charging dogs and possible injuries to officers.
Both Cases Remain Pending
Gould reported at the end of the video that McKenna was charged with aggravated battery, threatening a public official and two counts of resisting a peace officer.
Her boyfriend was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, threatening a public official and disorderly conduct.
Gould stressed that both cases were still pending and neither defendant had been convicted.
That distinction is important because bodycam footage can show chaotic conduct without resolving every legal question that will later be argued in court. Charges represent accusations, and both defendants remain presumed innocent unless and until guilt is established.
Still, Gould saw the encounter as an example of how quickly people can make an already serious police call substantially worse through their own reactions.
Police initially appeared focused on determining whether McKenna was safe after finding her boyfriend intoxicated near a knife and receiving confusing answers about her location. Once they found her, however, the interaction turned into a physical struggle involving threats, dogs and an arrest.
Her repeated claim that her father was a sheriff did nothing to change that trajectory.
If anything, it became one of the strangest elements of a scene in which nearly every attempt by officers to regain control seemed to produce another layer of chaos.
