A Fort Worth family is still trying to recover after a speeding driver lost control, smashed through a backyard fence and came frighteningly close to three young children who were playing in a swimming pool, according to a FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth report by Dionne Anglin.
Anglin said the crash happened Sunday evening in north Fort Worth, where surveillance cameras captured the moment a Chevy Camaro tore through a wooden fence near the family’s pool, sending large pieces of debris flying across the yard.
The three children – a 2-year-old girl and her 5-year-old twin brothers – were not hurt, but Anglin said the impact left them terrified and inconsolable.
Car Came Within Feet Of The Children
The video shared with FOX 4 shows how little separated the children from a far worse outcome.
One of the children had just walked through the area moments before the vehicle blasted through the fence.
Anglin described the incident as a “split-second disaster” that narrowly missed the children.

The Camaro reportedly hit a concrete pillar after coming through the fence, and the force of that collision sent the car bouncing back toward the road.
Pieces of concrete, rocks and parts of the damaged divider post were thrown across the backyard.
Remarkably, none of that debris struck the children.
That may be the most difficult part of the video to watch, because the family appears to have avoided tragedy by only a matter of feet and seconds.
Family Says Driver Was Moving At High Speed
The homeowners declined an on-camera interview, but they told Anglin the car appeared to be traveling at a very high rate of speed along Heritage Trace Parkway before the driver lost control.
Fort Worth police said the Camaro was speeding when it crashed.
The homeowners described the driver as a young man in his early 20s.
Police did not publicly release his name.
According to Anglin, officers cited him for reckless driving.
A passenger in the vehicle suffered a gash to the head and was taken to a hospital.
The crash happened around 7 p.m., a time when families are commonly outside, children are still playing and people generally would not expect a car to suddenly come through a backyard wall.
Parents Rushed To Get Their Kids Safe
The audio from the surveillance footage captured the panic immediately after the crash.
Anglin warned viewers that the sound was upsetting because of how frightened the children became.

The family rushed toward the pool area to get them away from the wreckage and make sure they were safe.
The children were left crying uncontrollably, according to the report.
Even though no one in the yard suffered a physical injury, that kind of sudden event can leave a family shaken long after the debris is cleaned up.
A backyard swimming pool is supposed to be one of the safest, most familiar places a child has.
The idea that a vehicle can suddenly break through the fence at highway-like speed destroys that sense of security in an instant.
Councilman Says Speeding Is A Growing Concern
Fort Worth District 4 Councilman Charlie Lauersdorf visited the family after the crash and told FOX 4 that speeding and distracted driving have become major concerns in the area.
“One of my major concerns has been, and residents’ concerns in our area is speeding and distracted driving,” Lauersdorf said.

He added that city leaders need to determine what can be done to reduce those problems before another incident ends differently.
The damage to the fence and other property matters, he said, but public safety is the larger issue.
“This fence obviously, it’s all HOA property,” Lauersdorf said, before emphasizing that the real concern is determining whether speeding or distracted driving led to the crash and how similar incidents can be prevented.
That is a fair focus considering how close the vehicle came to three children.
Property can be rebuilt.
The danger shown in the surveillance footage could easily have produced a loss that could not be repaired.
Homeowners Want Drivers To Slow Down
Anglin said the family later provided a statement expressing how grateful they are that their children are still alive.
They are now considering pushing for traffic-calming measures along the stretch of road near their home.
Among the ideas they mentioned were speed bumps or other changes designed to force drivers to slow down.
The family also said they want stronger ordinances dealing with reckless driving.
Their reaction is understandable.
Before the crash, the wooden fence likely felt like a clear barrier between the road and the backyard.
After watching a Camaro tear through it, that barrier probably does not feel nearly as protective.
Surveillance Shows How Close The Call Really Was
Photos from the scene showed the Camaro after it went through the fence, while the home’s cameras documented the entire sequence.
Anglin said the family is still “working to steady their nerves” after seeing just how close the vehicle came to their children.
That footage removes any temptation to treat the incident as just another property-damage crash.

The car did not simply hit a fence.
It entered an area where three small children were actively playing.
Large pieces of concrete and rock were thrown through the yard, yet somehow all three children escaped injury.
The margin between a frightening story and a fatal one was extremely small.
Family Says They Are Grateful Their Children Survived
The homeowners told FOX 4 their strongest feeling now is gratitude.
Their children were close enough to the crash that the outcome could have changed with only a slight difference in timing or direction.
Instead, all three survived without being hit.
The passenger’s injury and the extensive property damage remain part of the aftermath, while police have cited the driver for reckless driving.
For the family, however, the focus has shifted toward making sure the road outside their home becomes safer.
Anglin’s report shows why.
A speeding vehicle did not just leave the roadway and strike a barrier.
It crashed directly into a family’s private backyard while three young children were playing there, turning an ordinary Sunday evening into an experience their parents are unlikely to forget.
