A local fishing YouTuber known as Captain Crunch Boats was stabbed while livestreaming at a public boat ramp in the Clear Lake area of Harris County, Texas, according to authorities, with the attack unfolding while his camera was still recording.
ABC13 Houston reporter Miya Shay said the stabbing happened at the Clear Lake Park public boat ramps along NASA Parkway, where Captain Crunch is a familiar presence among fishermen and boaters who regularly use the docks.
The livestream, which ran for roughly 75 minutes, is now part of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office investigation and captured both an argument shortly before the attack and the frantic moments after the YouTuber was stabbed.
Livestream Captured The Moments Before The Attack
Shay reported that Captain Crunch had been recording boaters coming and going from the public dock when he became involved in a verbal exchange with several people.
At one point in the video, he can be heard calling out, “See you later, Karen,” toward a woman who was leaving.
The argument continued briefly with another woman, but then the camera suddenly dropped to the ground.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, that is when an unknown person approached Captain Crunch from behind and stabbed him.
The video did not clearly capture the attack itself because of the camera’s position, but the audio recorded people shouting at the suspected attacker and calling for help.
That detail makes the livestream especially important to investigators because it preserves the sequence immediately before and after the stabbing, even if it does not provide a clear look at the suspect’s face.
A Fishing Guide Says The Attack Looked Personal
Fishing guide Harrison Woods, who told Shay he frequently sees Captain Crunch at the boat ramp, said he was shocked by what happened.
“It seems like the stabbing was personal,” Woods said, pointing to the way the attacker apparently came up from behind while Captain Crunch was focused on another group in front of him.
Woods described Captain Crunch as someone who is regularly at the docks and is generally friendly while filming people and creating entertainment from activity around the boat ramp.
“He’s always out here,” Woods said, adding that he himself visits the area almost every day.
The suggestion that the attack may have been personal remains Woods’ interpretation rather than an official conclusion from investigators, but the circumstances do raise obvious questions about whether the suspect had been watching Captain Crunch or had some prior grievance with him.
Boaters He Had Been Arguing With Rushed To Help
One of the stranger parts of the incident is that the same boaters Captain Crunch had been arguing with moments earlier reportedly helped him once the attack began.
Shay said investigators believe members of that group jumped in to stop the assault and assist him.
The livestream captured voices yelling at the attacker to get off Captain Crunch while others called for help.
That turn in the story is significant because the argument seen on video could easily have led viewers to assume those people were involved in the stabbing, yet authorities said they instead intervened after the unknown suspect attacked him.
It is a useful reminder of how misleading a short clip can be without the full sequence of events.
People who were exchanging heated words with the YouTuber moments earlier became some of the people helping him once the situation turned violent.
Another Fisherman’s Truck Was Also Damaged
Investigators also say the suspected attacker slashed the tires of a black truck belonging to another fisherman at the dock.
That fisherman told ABC13 that his truck looked almost identical to the one Captain Crunch drove and believed the suspect may simply have targeted the wrong vehicle.
If that suspicion is correct, it could add weight to the idea that whoever carried out the attack was specifically looking for Captain Crunch rather than randomly damaging property.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has not publicly established a motive, however, and investigators were still trying to determine who the suspect was.
Shay said authorities had obtained some video that may show the person responsible, but none of the available footage gave them a clear view of the suspect’s face.
Detectives were continuing to search for additional surveillance footage that might provide a better identification.
Captain Crunch Was Released From The Hospital
Despite being stabbed, Captain Crunch suffered what authorities described as minor injuries.
Shay reported that he had already been released from the hospital by the time of the ABC13 report and had posted on social media indicating that he planned to provide a more complete update about what happened.
That outcome is fortunate considering how easily a stabbing from behind could have caused far more serious injuries.
The location also adds another troubling element to the case.
Woods said the public boat ramp is normally peaceful and that he could not understand why someone would bring that kind of violence to an area commonly used by fishermen, families and recreational boaters.
“I wouldn’t understand why somebody would come out here to a nice, peaceful boat ramp,” he said.
Investigators Are Still Looking For The Suspect
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office was continuing to search for the person accused of stabbing Captain Crunch and damaging the nearby truck.
Shay said investigators were asking anyone with information, including people who may have additional video from the dock or surrounding area, to contact authorities.
The fact that Captain Crunch was livestreaming gave investigators an unusually detailed record of the moments around the attack, but it still did not provide the one thing they appear to need most: a clear image of the suspect.
For people who regularly use the Clear Lake ramps, the stabbing has changed the feel of a place that Woods described as normally quiet and uneventful.
