24 Jaw-Dropping Handguns of 2024 You Must Check Out

The gun industry is booming, and not only in terms of total sales but also in the array of new firearms that manufacturers are releasing.

A major trend this year as well has been the assortment of new handguns that we’ve seen come out. Some of these guns are entirely new models, while others are improvements or upgrades to existing designs.

Here are the coolest 24 new handguns that have been released in 2024:

The Colt Grizzly is a new .357 Magnum revolver from Colt that is built on the same frame size as the Python. The primary difference with the Grizzly is its recoil reduction features in the form of an unfluted cylinder and barrel porting. The unfluted cylinder adds more weight to the gun to reduce recoil, while the six ports near the muzzle helps to keep muzzle flip to a minimum.

5 – Colt Kodiak

The Colt Kodiak is the .44 Magnum counterpart to the Grizzly and is built on the Anaconda frame size. Like the Grizzly, it comes with an unfluted cylinder and barrel porting to keep muzzle rise down. The addition of these ports also slightly reduces muzzle velocity in contrast to a standard Colt Python or Anaconda.

6 – Colt Python (blued)

When Colt announced that they would re-releasing their classic Python revolver in 2020, it was only offered in stainless steel. This year they have officially reintroduced the Python in a blued finish as well in two barrel lengths: 4.25 inch and 6 inch. The newer Pythons are built out of stronger steel than their older counterparts with additional mass added behind the rear sights and back strap of the grip for greater durability.

A pleasant surprise this year was the resurrection of the Hudson H9 pistol in the form of the Daniel Defense Daniel H9. The Hudson H9 pistol was very short-lived when it was originally released in 2017, but Daniel Defense purchased the patents and completely renovated the gun. The new H9 has a lighter aluminum frame in contrast to the original’s steel frame. Like the original, it has a low bore axis with a light 1911-style trigger to create a soft shooting experience. Total capacity is 15+1 rounds.

8 – Diamondback SDR

The Diamondback SDR (Self-Defense Revolver) is a 6-shot compact revolver chambered for the .357 Magnum. It has a push button cylinder release that looks like the push button magazine release on a semi-automatic pistol. It also comes with rubber textured grips and fiber-optic sights. Diamondback designed the SDR to fit in holsters that are designed for Smith & Wesson J-Frames, which will make the process of finding a holster a lot easier.

12 – Glock 49

Glock’s new pistol this year is the G49. This is a 9mm pistol that combines the Glock 19’s frame with the slide of the Glock 47. The idea is to have a Glock that’s easy to conceal like the G19 but with a longer sight radius. The G49 also comes with a slide cut so you can add an MOS red dot sight if you so choose. Capacity is 15+1 rounds.

13 – Heritage Roscoe

The Super Redhawk has long been one of Ruger’s most popular revolvers for large calibers, but now they’re offering it in a smaller caliber in the form of the .22 Hornet. This edition of the Super Redhawk comes with a 9.5-inch barrel to allow you to get the most out of the high velocity .22 Hornet round. The cylinder holds eight rounds.

17 – Smith & Wesson Ultimate Carry J-Frame

The Smith & Wesson J-Frame has long been one of the most popular snub nose revolvers for concealed carry and self-defense ever made, and for 2024 it’s been taken to the next level. The new 5-shot Ultimate Carry J-Frame is based around the S&W 442 (black) and 642 (stainless) models. It comes with an XS Tritium night sight that makes it easy to aim in low-light conditions, the use of titanium pins for superior durability over a standard 442/642, and a comfortable VZ grip to help absorb snappy recoil from .38 Special self-defense rounds.

18 – Taurus 327 T.O.R.O

The Taurus 327 T.O.R.O (Taurus Optic Ready Option) is a 3-inch barreled compact revolver chambered for the .327 Magnum cartridge, which generates less recoil than the .357 Magnum while offering more stopping power than .38 Special. The 6-shot Taurus 327 can also chamber and fire the .32 H&R Magnum, .32 S&W Long, and .32 S&W Short rounds as well.

19 – Taurus Deputy

The new Deputy revolver from Taurus closely replicates the Colt Single Action Army, or Peacemaker. Like the original SAA, the Deputy has four audible clicks when you pull the hammer back. It also incorporates a transfer bar safety mechanism similar to what is present on the Ruger Vaquero revolvers. The 6-shot Deputy is currently available in either .45 Long Colt or .357 Magnum, and in 4.75 or 5.5 inch barrel lengths.

20 – Taurus TH10

The Taurus TH10 is the first 10mm Auto pistol that Taurus has ever offered. As with other TH pistols, the TH10 is a double action/single action semi-automatic pistol with a frame mounted safety/docker lever. Moving the lever upwards engages the safety and allows you to carry the TH10 ‘cocked and locked’ like 1911, while pressing it downwards safely decocks the weapon. Capacity is 15+1 rounds.

21 – Uberti 1873 Hunter

The 1873 Hunter is a new revolver from Uberti that is designed to combined the feel of the Old West with practicality in the modern world. This is a 6-shot revolver chambered for .44 Magnum or .45 Long Colt and closely replicates the original Colt Single Action Army (SAA) revolver. It has a larger grip to help the shooter better handle the recoil of these larger calibers, as well as a Picatinny rail over the frame and part of the barrel to add a scope or a red dot sight to aid in hunting.

22 – Walther PDP Compact Steel Frame

At over 40 ounces, the Walther PDP Compact Steel Frame in 9mm weighs nearly twice as much as its polymer-framed counterpart, but this is designed to help reduce recoil and reduce muzzle flip. The grip texturing and angles on the PDP Compact Steel Frame are designed to mimic the styling on the polymer-framed version as well, and it comes with the ability to add a red dot sight. Total capacity is 15+1 rounds.

23 – Walther PPK and PPK/S in .32 ACP

Walther PPK

Another pleasant surprise this year was Walther’s reintroduction of the PPK and PPK/S pistols in .32 ACP, or 7.65mm. The .32 was the original chambering for the PPK when it was first introduced in 1931. But when Walther resumed production of the PPK and PPK/S at their factory in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the guns were only available in .380 ACP. The .32 generates less recoil than the .380 in the PPK and offering these guns in their original caliber helps bring them back to their roots. Capacity is 7+1 for the PPK and 8+1 for the PPK/S.

24 – Walther WMP

The Walther WMP (Walther Magnum Pistol) is chambered for the .22 Magnum caliber, which is a good choice for those who are more recoil sensitive but who want a round that is still viable for self-defense. The WMP has a capacity of 15+1 rounds and comes optics ready so you can install a red dot sight. It’s also unique because it has both a push button and a paddle magazine release.
