A Florida man accused of breaking into a collectibles store with a battery-powered saw and stealing roughly $12,000 worth of Pokémon cards was eventually tracked down after investigators followed surveillance footage, a vehicle and even blood allegedly left behind on the broken window.
The case was featured by the bodycam footage YouTube channel NYDETECTIVE, whose host narrated the May 21, 2026 investigation as Palm Beach County sheriff’s detectives responded to the store, reviewed the damage and later served a search warrant at the suspect’s home.
What makes the burglary stand out is not simply the strange method of entry. It is the amount of money allegedly tied up in small pieces of collectible cardboard, which helps explain just how valuable the modern Pokémon market has become.
A Saw, A Hammer And A Tiny Hole In The Window
According to the footage, the store owner told deputies the burglar initially struggled to get through the building’s impact-resistant glass.
The intruder appeared to use a powered saw before returning with what looked like a hammer or mallet, gradually opening a small hole large enough to squeeze through.
The owner joked that the man climbed inside “like Spider-Man,” even performing what he described as a kind of barrel roll after getting through the opening.
Once inside, the suspect allegedly moved quickly toward the Pokémon inventory.
The owner initially estimated the losses at somewhere between $10,000 and $15,000, later placing the stolen merchandise at about $12,000.
He told investigators the burglar did not appear to be grabbing random merchandise.
“He knows Pokémon,” the owner said.
According to him, the suspect passed over other items and instead focused on specific card trays and higher-value merchandise, including products kept farther toward the back of the store.
That detail makes the burglary much more interesting than a simple smash-and-grab. The allegation is that the suspect understood enough about the hobby to know what was worth taking, suggesting that Pokémon cards now have enough resale value to attract targeted theft rather than casual shoplifting.
Blood On The Glass Became Important Evidence
The suspect may also have left investigators something far more useful than video.
Store employees noticed blood on the damaged glass where the burglar had allegedly squeezed inside.
Deputies carefully preserved the area so that the blood could be collected as evidence.
The owner said surveillance appeared to show the suspect wearing gloves once he entered the store, but the damage had apparently already been done.
NYDETECTIVE’s narration later explained that investigators obtained authorization to collect the suspect’s DNA because of the blood left at the scene.
The store’s cameras also captured the burglar’s movements outside the building.
According to the owner, the suspect approached from one direction around 3 a.m., while neighboring cameras potentially offered additional views of where he came from and where he went afterward.
The shop owner said he was already asking nearby tenants for footage that could help investigators identify a vehicle.
Detectives Followed The Vehicle To A Home
NYDETECTIVE said officers eventually identified a vehicle connected with the burglary and tracked it to a residence.
Detective Reamer of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrived there with Detective Mace and other officers, where they encountered the suspect, identified in the footage as Clayton.
The detectives immediately detained him and explained that they had a search warrant for the home.
Reamer then spoke with Clayton’s mother, who initially appeared stunned by what she was hearing.
“I’m investigating a burglary to a business,” the detective explained before telling her that investigators believed her son had entered the store in the early hours of the morning and stolen a large quantity of Pokémon cards.
Her response was immediate shock.
The detective also told her the suspect had badly cut himself while going through the window, which was why investigators had obtained a warrant for DNA evidence.
Clayton’s mother began remembering details from earlier that morning, including seeing him awake around 4:30 a.m. and noticing unusual items in his room.
She also recalled that he had told her he cut himself on glass connected to a fish aquarium.
That explanation suddenly looked very different once detectives arrived describing blood found on a store window.
‘Very Stupid’
When officers spoke directly with Clayton, he appeared to understand the seriousness of the situation.
“So, very stupid,” an officer remarked.
“Yeah, it was,” Clayton replied.
He initially said he wanted an attorney but also expressed a desire to explain what happened and help return the stolen property.
Detectives were careful to tell him that requesting a lawyer was entirely his right and that they could not simply negotiate a deal with him at the house.
“I can make a deal,” Clayton suggested.
“Unfortunately, we don’t make deals,” the detective replied.
Officers explained that they already had a search warrant and what they described as an abundance of evidence, meaning investigators were going to search for the cards, clothing, saw and other evidence whether he cooperated or not.
After speaking with his parents, NYDETECTIVE’s host said Clayton decided to tell officers where everything was located.
“I’ll show you where everything is,” he said.
The shift from asking about a lawyer to cooperating became one of the most revealing moments in the footage. By that point, investigators were openly telling him they had video, a vehicle connection, blood evidence and a search warrant, leaving very little mystery about why they had arrived.
Pokémon Cards Hidden In A ‘Fish Room’
Officers said much of the stolen Pokémon merchandise was eventually found hidden inside the home.
One detective explained that Clayton had concealed many of the cards in what the family called his fish room.
A separate bag in his closet allegedly contained bloody clothing and the bags used to carry the stolen merchandise from the store.
Detectives also learned that the saw used during the break-in had apparently been thrown into a residential garbage can nearby.
Clayton then rode with officers and directed them toward the area where he said he had discarded it.
The recovery effort was surprisingly methodical considering how chaotic the alleged burglary itself sounded. The suspect had allegedly gone from trying to break hurricane-resistant glass with a rock, to using powered equipment, squeezing through a small opening, cutting himself, hauling away thousands of dollars in cards and then attempting to dispose of evidence.
It is the kind of crime that sounds almost comedic until the dollar amount and criminal charges are considered.
A $12,000 Theft Over Trading Cards
NYDETECTIVE said Clayton was ultimately charged with burglary involving more than $1,000 in damage and grand theft involving property valued between $10,000 and $20,000.
The store owner was fortunate in at least one respect: he said much of the most valuable inventory had been stored elsewhere, meaning the losses could apparently have been much greater.
Still, an alleged $12,000 haul centered largely on Pokémon cards says something remarkable about what the hobby has become.
Cards that were once commonly thought of as toys for children can now carry values reaching into the hundreds or thousands of dollars, and entire businesses are built around buying, selling and protecting them.
That value naturally attracts people willing to steal them.
The most telling part of the store owner’s account may have been his belief that the burglar clearly knew what he wanted. According to him, the suspect did not waste much time examining price tags or unrelated collectibles; he went directly toward Pokémon merchandise and started filling bags.
For collectors, that is a reminder that the modern card market is no longer a small niche where expensive items can simply sit behind ordinary glass.
For the accused burglar, according to the footage, the attempt ended with detectives at his home, blood evidence waiting to be tested and much of the allegedly stolen merchandise being recovered.
A collection that could fit inside a couple of shopping bags was apparently worth enough to produce a five-figure felony case, and that may be the clearest sign of all of how extraordinary the Pokémon card market has become.
